Budget Truck Rental Review

Budget Truck Rental offers more than just its truck rental services – you can find almost any rental equipment you need for a move, big or small. Budget is available in the contiguous United States, and it offers one-way truck rentals.

Your options include 12-foot, 16-foot and 24-foot trucks. The smallest moving truck rental only has seating for two people, but the two larger trucks can seat three people. The two larger trucks also include a loading ramp and the ability to tow a vehicle. Additionally, you can rent a tow dolly from Budget, which is best for front-wheel-drive autos, or a car carrier, which is best for four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles.

Budget also rents out furniture pads, which are like large, thick blankets to protect your furniture from the metal interior of a moving truck. Hand trucks, or dollies, are helpful to have when you're moving heavy objects to and from a rental truck.

You can expect a good deal from Budget Truck Rental. The company uses the same algorithm other truck rental companies use to estimate truck rental rates, but Budget often has a promotion or coupon code that can save you a significant percentage off your quote. Prices are often lower if you make a reservation as far in advance as you can, and if you can reserve a truck between Sunday and Thursday – weekends are always busier. Special discounts apply for senior citizens, military personnel, students and more, so be sure to ask about those discounts when you reserve a truck. Budget Truck Rental often matches a competitor's price, so you can get a cheap truck rental.

It's important to remember that Budget does not offer a guarantee on reservations for rental trucks. The company claims it does not overbook, but overlapping can happen because of unforeseen circumstances. Sometimes this means that the truck you plan to rent may not be ready for you when you're ready for it, and the managers may work with you to get you a different size of truck or a new pickup time.

Unlike other truck rental services, Budget requires a credit card to hold a truck reservation. If you need to cancel your reservation, be sure to do so at least 48 hours before the pickup time to avoid a $50 fee. Several insurance options are available for you to purchase that can protect you and the rental truck should anything go wrong. Be sure to read the fine print, because not all plans cover everything. For example, a Limited Damage Waiver requires you to pay for the first $500 of damages, and this doesn't include damage to tires or overhead damage.

If you have to return your truck later than your reservation is good for on a one-way rental, you have to pay $85 per day you have the truck and 85 cents per additional mile. Younger drivers may have to pay extra to rent a truck from Budget. Drivers 18 to 23 years old may need to have two forms of valid ID and pay $25 per day as an underage surcharge.
